Privacy Policy

This policy describes the limited information handled by Zanesville Residents Directory and the choices available to visitors. The service is a private reference to Zanesville and Muskingum County record custodians and historical collections. It does not require an account or maintain a resident-record database. Official records remain with the office, court, library, or agency responsible for them, and that custodian’s procedures control access and correction.

Information Submitted Directly

Names, phone numbers, and addresses entered into a search form are sent to the outside provider that supplies the results. Zanesville Residents Directory does not retain a copy of those searches on its own servers. A message sent to the operators contains only the information included by the sender and is used to respond to that message.

Automatic Technical Data

Routine hosting logs may record an IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. Those data are reviewed in aggregate to operate, secure, and understand use of the service. Cookies or comparable technology may support basic analytics and, when applicable, advertising measurement.

How Limited Data Is Used

Technical and correspondence information is used to run the service, respond to an inquiry, investigate errors, measure traffic, and improve the reference material. Visitor lists are not sold, and the service does not create individual visitor profiles from the information described here.

External Services and Links

Links lead to county and state portals, libraries, archives, and third-party search tools. Each destination controls its own collection, use, security, pricing, and privacy practices. The same is true of sponsored search results, which are supplied by a third party rather than by Zanesville Residents Directory.

Who Can Process Data

Hosting and support providers may process ordinary server-log data in order to provide their services. Analytics or advertising partners can receive the automatic data described above. Information may also be disclosed when valid legal process requires disclosure; it is not otherwise shared as a visitor list.

Safeguards and Retention

The service uses an encrypted connection and keeps logs only for as long as they are reasonably needed for the purposes described here. There are no site accounts, passwords, or visitor profiles to maintain. Reasonable safeguards cannot guarantee the security of any internet transmission or an outside service.

Visitors Under 18

The service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. Personal information is not knowingly collected from a person under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor has submitted information through a message, they may ask for its deletion through the contact route.

Privacy and Record Rights

Ohio public-record law has separate rules from this private service. R.C. 149.43 provides access to qualifying public records but preserves statutory exemptions and redactions. R.C. 149.45 provides an Attorney General written-request process for covered personal information in internet-posted public records, where practicable. Voter-record confidentiality is governed in part by R.C. 3503.13, and R.C. 3705.23 limits medical birth information and recent decedent Social Security numbers while setting the signed-application and fee framework for certified vital copies.

Ohio’s Data Protection Act, R.C. Chapter 1354, is a cybersecurity safe-harbor program, not a universal consumer deletion registry or statewide data-broker opt-out system. To correct a government record, contact the actual custodian, such as the Auditor, Recorder, Board of Elections, court, local registrar, or BMV. To request deletion of information sent directly to the operators, use the Contact page.

Policy Revisions

A revised policy will be posted here when changes are made. Continued use after the posting of an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
